The Covers EP is a celebration of a local Los Angeles community of musicians and the creative diversity therein. There are few people or bands more emblematic of that diversity than George Clarke of Deafheaven; a band that has always refused to be confined by the boundaries of their genre, allowing them to “crossover” into many unexpected communities.
Having Clarke featured on this up-tempo, orchestral reimagining of Evan Dando’s Waking Up was the perfect fit. As Clarke now finds himself singing more traditionally instead of screaming, we decided to use both aspects of his voice: the eagle-like scream for texture and effect, as well as his wonderful croon to parallel Storefront Church’s lead throughout the song. The result is a blistering and cinematic 2 minute excursion through Dando’s world as he explores life without drugs.
lyrics
Put the other rest of it around itself
Spray with water and restore the health
Let it sleep, still it keeps
Waking up
Waking up
Take a shower and destoy your hell
Put the other rest of it around itself
Let it sleep, still it keeps
Waking up
